Watergate Bay is a bay located two miles north of Newquay on the B3276 Newquay to Padstow road near the hamlet of Tregurrian. It is adjacent to Newquay Bay and faces the Atlantic Ocean. The two mile long, sandy beach and exposed north westerly location is a popular location for water sports, surfing, kite flying, and sand art.
Watergate Bay caters for everyone, whether you’re looking for a fun, action-filled day out or want a relaxed day soaking up the scenery. The fabulous soft sand and acres of beach offer a perfect place for a walk or day at the seaside.
Popular for it's regular events, Watergate Bay is host to many sporting activities and displays, including the annual Polo on the Beach, and a series of intense sports shows, hosted in conjunction with the Xtreme Academy.
The Watergate Bay Hotel and Fifteen Cornwall, a restaurant set up by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in 2006, are located just above the beach and there are a number of caravan and camping sites within easy reach.
Watergate Bay has been used as a film location for Plunge (2003), a surf movie featuring Kate Winslet. Echo Beach (2008), a 12-part TV series that was filmed during the summer of 2007 featuring Jason Donovan and Martine McCutcheon. Moving Wallpaper (2008), a behind-the-scenes comedy following the making of Echo Beach.
In 2019 Jamie Oliver's restaurant 'Fifteen' closes leaving 100 people out of work.
