An historic and tranquil haven protected and unspoilt for 700 years
A rare and very special part of Cornwall with a fascinating history stretching back to 1296 when Randolphus de Trevarno first gave the Estate its name. Privately owned since then by a succession of notable families, including Dr William Oliver the magnificent gardens and grounds have been developed and extended over the centuries to become what many have described as one of the finest in a county renowned for its great gardening tradition.
In 1874 the estate two miles north-west of Helston was bought by William Bickford-Smith, a descendant of William Bickford, the inventor of the miner's safety fuse. Bickford-Smith was a rich local businessman turned Liberal politician, whose interests included tin mining and the Helston Railway, which ran through the estate and of which he was co-developer and chairman.
The estate was owned by a succession of families until 1994 when it was sold for development as a tourist attraction based around its extensive gardens. It was open to the public from 1998 until April 2012, but the estate has since been broken up and the house and gardens are again a private residence
In October 2010, the owners put the estate on the market for ten million pounds.
