At Veryan Vineyard and winery we enjoy meeting our visitors from near and far. Conveniently situated within easy reach of Truro and St. Austell, the Vineyard is in the beautiful Roseland area of Cornwall, famed for its magnificent scenery, mild climate, attractive villages, lovely beaches and coastal walks.
Veryan Vineyard was planted in 1983 and 1984 with the varieties Madeline Angevine, Hexelrebe and Schonburger plus some Reichensteiner and Triomphe d' Alsace. These are grown in poly-tunnels and in the open. Thus, our vines are at least twelve years old, fully mature and producing high quality wines.
Veryan Cyder Orchards were established in 1986 and 1992 on a basis of old West Country varieties. The bush tree orchard, containing the varieties Dabinett, Harry masters Jersey, Chisel Jersey and Brown Snout, are now in full production. The standard trees are beginning to bear fruit and include the varieties - Sweet Coppin, Northwood, Yarlington Mill, Taylor's Backwell Red, Reinette O'Bry, Improved Dove and Stoke Red. Thus we have a full range of vintage quality cyder apple varieties, including bitter sweet, bitter sharp and sweet, which are essential for the production of a well balanced cyder.
We have concentrated on the development of premium quality strong cyder, alcohol content 7.5 - 8.5%, with a distinctive wine-like character, intended as an economical alternative to grape based wine for drinking with food.
It should be emphasised that our cyders are completely natural products containing no artificial colour or sweetening and no foreign apple concentrates. By using only high quality fruit and the best processing techniques we ensure a vastly superior cyder compared to the run-of-the-mill products sold nationally. Our cyders are available at the Vineyard shop or at good off-licences throughout Cornwall.
In a recent development we have added some Cornish apples to our collection. These are reputedly capable of making cyder - Collogett Pippin, Captain Broad and Lord of the Isles. These trees are very young and it will many years before we can assess the product.
In pursuing our policy of continual development of high quality products we have recently added a pure fresh-pressed apple juice and a range of preserves incorporating our cyders. Finally, we have been working on an authentic Cornish Mead and hope to have development quantities available shortly.
One mile north-east of Portloe.
