Quiet and peaceful lake

Porth is a mature coarse fishery and designated bird sanctuary. The lake is a peaceful and picturesque site just outside of Newquay.

The recently completed an Environmental Enhancements Project has seen improvements to angling facilities and the surrounding environment along with interpretation boards and additional access paths including a nature trail with information on the flora and fauna along the way. Two new bird hides have been put in; the visitor centre has been renovated and now has informative display.

The concrete dam was completed in 1960 and the reservoir covers an area of about 40 acres, with a perimeter of approximately three miles. The reservoir is principally fed by the small river that starts near Ruthvoes, about four miles to the east and is the main water supply for Newquay. From the reservoir's outlet, the river flows to St. Columb Porth, where it enters the sea.

The many public footpaths in the area can be linked up to create a circular walk or cycle way.
