Peaceful lake high on the moors

Covering more than 900 acres, it is the largest lake in Cornwall. It is situated south of the A30 trunk road near the village of Bolventor and overlooked by Brown Gelly. It was constructed in 1982 and flooded in 1984.

With ample parking, picnic areas and lakeside walks, Colliford provides the opportunity for a peaceful day in the countryside. The Nature Reserve is an important site for bird-life including over-wintering wildfowl. The lake offers traditional fly fishing for natural brown trout and is regarded as Cornwall's premier brown trout fishery. Permits are available from Jamaica Inn.

Dozmary Pool outfalls into the lake, and the lake's own outfall forms one of the tributaries of the River Fowey.

Colliford Lake is managed by the South West Lakes Trust and water sports are not allowed on the lake.

Our newly refurbished toilets and visitor information centre are complete, with the toilets opening seasonally. This project adds to the enhancement of this area of the lake for the local community and visitors.
